November is for Writers

The leaves are changing, the cool wind is blowing in, all the girlies are drinking pumpkin spice *insert your coffee of choice* and that can only mean one thing…

It’s time to write a novel!

For the last four years I have participated in National Novel Writing Month aka NaNoWriMo’s 50,000 words challenge. In previous years I would use NaNoWriMo, the non-for-profit, website to log my word counts, buy the merch and participate within the regional communities of writers. However, this year, the company has taken a stance on AI generation that I do not support and ultimately I made the decision to not associate myself with their company.

Even though I will not be participating in the official NaNoWriMo challenge, I will still be drafting a new novel with the goal to write 50,000 words in the month of November. Thankfully, there are plenty of writing communities that are gathering together to run challenges and I will be joining Sarra Cannon’s Heartbreathings Rough Draft Challenge. I love the community her and her team have built for writers and readers alike. I will also be participating in my local group that has branched from NaNoWriMo writing events at out local libraries.

So, what will I be working on?

I will be drafting the fourth and final book in my Fangirl series, Project Bookmarks. This past month I have been working on my outline, setting up my Scrivener file, creating a Pinterest board and most importantly creating a project playlist. Project Bookmarks will have second chance romance, childhood summer romance and romantic suspense. Where my goal for November is 50,000 words, the overall word count goal for Project Bookmarks is 70,000-75,000 words.

The plan… the hope… the desire…

Another goal I have for November is writing a weekly blog for my site with writing updates. I’m trying to build a habit of writing blogs for my website and this gives me a great opportunity to work on that. I will also be posting daily on my Instagram @nikkirae_author. On Instagram, there will be a little about myself, my project and writing updates.

I’m excited for the next month of writing, building new habits and continuing to build my author platform. I’m excited to have you all along for the ride as well. If you’re writing as well please let me know so I can cheer you on!

Happy Writing!
